Warehouse Mezzanine: What Is It?

Warehouse Mezzanine: What is it?

A warehouse mezzanine floor system is an elevated floor/platform that is installed in-between the floor and the ceiling. Most of the time these steel structures are free-standing and can be dismantled and moved with relative ease. Industrial mezzanines are normally composed of steel (carbon or stainless). The flooring will vary based on the specific application, but it is often made of steel (bar grate, metal decking, etc), wood product finished floor or b-decking.  Mezzanines can also be designed to accommodate a concrete flooring surface. Mezzanine systems in a warehouse environment are an effective way to increase storage and/or workspace by allowing you to utilize the unused vertical space that already exists in your facility. After the mezzanine is constructed, the space beneath it is also accessible and can be used for storage or other purposes.  There are a few different types of mezzanines to choose from, but steel structural is the most common in warehouses.

In the world today we try to find easier ways of living. One of the things that make our lives a whole lot easier in society today would be the use of technology.technology has made it easier to live in a more modernized world. One very important piece of technology that we use everyday would be the conveyor system.

Conveyor systems have been around since the early 20's. Now you might be thinking what is a conveyor system? Now Conveyor systems are a very common piece of handling equipment.Conveyor systems work by using two pulleys that continually loop over one another. This is done with endless procession of hooks, gears, buckets, and a wide rubber belt. The belt is then supported by a series
of rollers along the path. The rollers in the middle prevents the belt from sagging in the middle while carrying a heavy load.

Conveyor system are ideal means of reducing human labor substantially by automatically moving items, which can be larger or smaller to each desired location. In society today we invent new things to make our lives just a little more simpler. Try a conveyor system in your facility today
for a faster labor and a massive savings!

Industrial Structure

Industrial Structure

A structure designed to fulfill a specific function in industry or to support or house equipment, raw materials, or communication lines. In modern industrial construction, more than 25 percent of the total cost of construction and installation work is attributed to industrial structures. There are more than 100 different types of industrial structures. They are conventionally divided into the following major groups:

1. structures to support and house production machinery, including foundations for equipment and machines, bases for installing industrial apparatus, caissons, and racks.
2. Transportation structures, including overpasses, unloading and crane platforms, and tunnels for conveyors
3. Communication structures, including conduits and pipelines for electrical power networks and for transmitting raw materials, tunnels, power transmission line towers, communication line poles, illumination masts, and chimneys;
4. Tanks for gaseous and liquid products and bulk materials and structures for ventilation, drainage, and water and gas supply systems, including bunkers, gasholders, oil storage tanks, silos, water towers and pressure reservoirs, spray ponds, cooling towers, settling reservoirs, water intake works, and sewage treatment plants;

Industrial structures are most characteristic of the chemical, metallurgical, and mining industries. Their use is  rising as a result of the increasing tendency to place industrial equipment in the open areas outside industrial premises and the increasing concentration of equipment in industrial plants. Most industrial structures are mainly reinforced-concrete and steel structures, including supports, platforms, chimneys, silos, and tanks. In some cases, structures of bonded wood are suitable for platforms and ventilating towers. Increased efficiency in the construction of industrial structures is achieved by using prefabricated and by standardization of the entire structure or its separate elements. Standard designs have been developed for many industrial structures, which make possible the employment of advanced technical ideas and the most efficient use of existing production facilities in the construction industry.

Types of Mezzanines

10 Types of Mezzanines

Have you ever stayed awake all night wondering what types of mezzanine are out there? Don't worry, you are not the only one! We here at Industrial Storage Solutions created a list of mezzanine types!

1. Free Standing (Structural)

Free Standing MezzanineThis type of mezzanine is built for an open feel and allows for high customization. The way this type of mezzanine was made also allows for plumbing and electrical access. This system is built with heavy steel, much heavier than other types of mezzanines. This high weight causes the biggest drawback for free standing mezzanines, high shipping costs. Another drawback of the free-standing mezzanine is the higher dead loads and rougher finish.

2. Building Supported

Mezzanine system supported by a building structure or platform. This type of mezzanine can be built if the building is designed to support additional loads. Another way this mezzanine can be built is if it's supported partly by the building and partly by columns.

3. Rack Supported

The combination of a mezzanine and pallet racks. Pallet racks act as support for the mezzanine. This type of mezzanine is used for its high storage space and efficiency.
Another name for this mezzanine is pallet rack mezzanine.

4. Shelving Supported

Combining a mezzanine with heavy duty shelving. This type of mezzanine uses standard components of shelving for support. They come in two standard styles, deck-over, and dual level shelving. Deck-over provides an unrestricted work area perfect for office space and large item storage. Dual level shelving is used for its high-density storage.

5. Cold Rolled

Mezzanine using cold rolled steel for support. This material has two major benefits over hot rolled or structural mezzanines. The first is that the steel material is much lighter and less expensive to ship. Second, cold rolled steel can be pre-galvanized. Pre-galvanized is much more cost effective than hot dipped galvanized. The drop backs of cold roll mezzanine are limited column spacing and inability to store high live loads.

6. Aluminum

Mezzanine structures built using aluminum. This type of mezzanine is impervious to rust, simple to
wash, can be safely immersed, and very light weight. It is so light that many mobile workstations are made of aluminum.

7. Fiberglass

High-quality fiberglass reinforced plastic is used to make this mezzanine. There are situations where normal materials won't cut it. That's when fiberglass comes in. This type of mezzanine is corrosion resistant, RF transparent, lightweight, strong, are electrically and thermally nonconductive. The drawbacks of this type of mezzanine are high cost and more "give" than steel.

8. Office Mezzanines

Office(s) built on top of a mezzanine system. Used to expand warehouse storage and office space at
the fraction of the cost of new construction. Below the mezzanine offers long and short term storage space. They are a great way to increase security, production, and safety.

9. Multi-Tier Mezzanine

Multi-tier mezzanines offer higher storage capacity than standard mezzanines. Mezzanines like these
come in two tier, three tier, and higher. Many large warehouses use this type of system. This type of system provides safety barriers, full fire protection, and access to equipment.

10. Stainless Steel

This type of system is made of stainless steel. It is a perfect fit for areas prone to chemicals and
exposure to moisture. The mezzanine is highly rust-resistant, easy to clean and sanitize. It is perfect for the food industry. These types of mezzanines are expensive to build and transport.
